| Climate and weather
|
Chennai, located in the southern state of
Tamil Nadu, has a hot and humid tropical climate. The place
bears tropical climate with mercury rising higher than 40
°C mark in summers. The average temperature in summers
is 37 °C and in winters it is 24 °C.
The east of city is lined up by the sea, that is Bay of Bengal.
The region thus receives a good amount of annual rainfall,
mainly from the north eastern monsoons. Average annual rainfall
received by the city is 1300 mm. The cyclones in the Bay of
Bengal rarely hit the coastal regions of Chennai.
Climate
Tropical climate. Hot and humid. The occasional sea breeze
makes it a trifle more bearable at times. Temperatures soar
highest in May (Between 40 and 45° Celsius). Winter in
Chennai (December, January and February) is not worth the
name. Monsoon is intermittent (July-August and September-November).
Valluvar Kottam marks the memorial
of one of the renowned poet and saint of the region, Thiruvalluvar.
The monument stands as a massive auditorium on a dry lake
that was filled with the garbage and debris. The auditorium
was thrown open to public in the year 1976. The memorial
is a revered place in the city as it is considered to
bear the impressions of the Tamil culture. Read
